Internet Censorship

             What should public high school students be allowed to view when trying to obtain information from the Internet? This is a question that is being asked of everyone. What should be considered viewable material and who should make this choice? Based on protecting the children. In the technology world today you can find almost everything you want to know on the Internet, whether it is educational or personal. A student could be researching Hiroshima and type in atomic bomb at a search engine and sites such as www.csi.ad.jp/ABOMB a site dedicated to the first atomic bomb and photos of Hiroshima, or www.expage.com/neobomb1 which also comes up in the same database, which gives a detailed description on how to make a pipe bomb. What's to stop that student from wanting to try it out and see what will happen. That's just one example of the possible educational/personal use of the material being viewed. It is so advanced that most of the time you do not even have to search anymore, pop-ups* are putting information right in your face. These pop-ups often include vulgar pictures and messages, not suitable for the school environment. The need for censorship in High Schools is evident and needs to be put in effect as soon as possible. To censor the Internet one needs to go through every piece of learning material and find what information on the Internet best suits the topic of study. Then block out all material that is irrelevant, which would need to be selected by an individual not any type blocking or filtering software, providing young students with a safe yet studious environment. However the down side to this is that it would be a violation of the students right to the First Amendment.
             In today's public high schools access to the Internet is anything but hard. There are computer labs devoted to Internet work alone, libraries with personal computer desks for privacy, and at least one computer in every classroom. &...
