             How Does Arthur Miller Create Tension Throughout Act 3 of The Crucible?
             The Crucible is set in Salem in 1962. During this time Christ was strongly believed in and played a great part in people's lives. Witchcraft was also a major issue and people were afraid of this. If witchcraft was claimed to be nearby the surrounding community would escalate into a riot until the witch had been destroyed. This is an example of what happens in the Crucible.
             The story begins when reverend Samuel Paris discovers his daughter Betty, his niece Abigail William and their friends along with His slave Tituba, dancing in the woods around a fire and chanting, he also saw one of the girls running around naked.
             The day after Betty, Paris's daughter and another of the girls, who are petrified about what they have done and fear what may happen to them appear to fall ill as if making themselves into victims of the groups actions.
             After all of the events that have took place the village soon begins to talk of witchcraft. The girls involved realise how serious things are getting and begin to panic. They argue about the real truth of what happened that night. Abigail Williams who acts as the group leader is horrified when the other girls start to talk about telling the truth to Paris and I a clear and threatening manor tells the girls that nothing will be said.
             The accusations soon begin to escalate and the whole community aswell as the girls fear for their future. To get themselves out of trouble the girl s accuse other members of the community, these citizens then panic and clear their name by naming other fellow citizens. The situation explodes.
             We also find out that Abigail has a motive for her dancing in the woods. It seems that Abigail had recently lost her job after Elizabeth proctor had found out that Abigail and john proctor were having an affair.
