Stephen Edwin King was born on 21 September1947, in Portland, Maine, to Donald and Nellie Ruth (Pillsbury) King. Donald King a former captain in the Merchant Marines, real name was David Spansky was a door-to-door salesman selling vacuum cleaners for Electrolux. Donald King had difficulties settling into family life, one chilly night when Stephen was three years old; he went out for cigarettes and never returned (Saidman, 1992). Stephen states, "After my father took off, my mother, struggled, and then landed on her feet." My brother and I didn't see a great deal of her over the next nine years. She worked a succession of continuous low paying jobs." (King, 2003).Donald King left his wife and two kids behind. This had a big indirect impact on Stephen's life. Stephen also had an older adopted brother, David Victor King born in 1945 and currently living in Rochester, New Hampshire (Appelo, 2003). Nellie Ruth Pillsbury asked her sister Ethelyn Flaws to care for the boys until she could find work. Ethelyn Flaws agreed to care for them. Stephen also worked at the launderette and was very poor. Stephen has no plans to stop writing. The king of literary and horror films, Stephen King continues to shock and horrify us with his work. After he graduated, the draft board examined him and found him to be unfit for the military. When he got married, he walked down the aisle, in a suit, tie and shoes that were borrowed. Stephen graduated with a Bachelor's degree for English in 1970. His hobbies were listening to horror stories on the radio and reading creepy comic books, like Weird Science, Tales From the Crypt and Tales From the Vault. His novels were now earning millions but he was still getting paid the same amount of money. Stephen and his wife stayed at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Writing in the evenings and on the weekends, he worked on short stories and graded homework. When asked about his opinion of Bachman, Stephen replied, "A nasty man. As a child, Stephen wore thick glasses, was tall, lonely, and bucktoothed and was frequently picked on by others. Without a word, Stephen went to his room for the rest of the day.
