the Mob father
I just finished reading the novel The Mob Father. This novel was written by a very talented author George Anastasia. George Anastasia really went into detail about the Philadelphia Crime Family. The book talked about very specific things that happened in the fifties with the Philadelphia Mob down in South Philly. Anastasia talks about the period when Angelo Bruno was the Philadelphia crime boss, until the period that Phil Testa, and Nicodemo "Little Nicky" Scarfo. George Anastasia talks about the way that the Italian people lived in the 19050's down in South Philly, and how an associate of organized crime started to clime the ladder from associate to being a capo in the mob in the 1980's. This novel has some good insight on how organized crime operated in Philadelphia. Although it only talks about a man's life that was an associate of organized crime, Tommy Del climbed the ladder of ranks of the Philly Mob, and also helped the police to bring down the Philadelphia Crime Family.Tommy Del was working for United Parcel Services in the 1960's as a truck driver. Scarfo took down Tommy Del from capo and made him a solider again, and told him to shape up. They were to kill Johnny Calabrese working out of South Jersey. Tommy Del would be the person who brought down Scarfo. Angelo Bruno's nickname was "The Docile Don" because he was not an aggressive man. Tommy Del's wife had a son and Tommy Del named him Tommy Del Junior. There was a contract of about $100,000 on the head of Tommy Del, or his two sons. He would take out his wife every Saturday night. The two cops told Tommy Del that his boss had put a contract on his head. At the restaurant you would see wise guys and mobsters it was a hang out place for them. Tommy Del was moving up the ranks in the Philadelphia underworld he bought a restaurant with Frankie Flowers from the Piccolo brothers.
