The main language spoken there is Hindi and English. The majior races are Indo- Aryan which consits of 72%, Drauidian which consits of 25% and Mongoloid which consits of 3%. The official religions are Hindu-81.3%, Islam-12%, Christian-2.3%, Sikh-1.9% and other-2.5%. The nations literacy rate is 52% and the growth rate is 1.5%. The birth rate is 23.3% and 406 million citizens make up the labor force with 60% for agriculture, 23% industry, and 17% for other services. Even with all this employment there is still a 4.4% unemployment rate and a percent of 3.5 of inflation exists in Calcutta.
