A Man For All Seasons

             1. Many times famous novels and plays are remade into movies. This is the case with the play "A Man For All Seasons." This famous play, written by Robert Bolt, tells the story of Sir Thomas Moore and his high morals and resistance against the King's wishes to divorce his Queen. The play shows the great turmoil between Moore and the other officials and the King himself. The historical tale of Sir Thomas Moore's involvement in the royal court seen in "A Man For All Seasons" has been remade onto the big screen. However, the film and the play are not exactly the same, which leads to a different atmosphere and experience for the audience. In the play it is apparent that there is a very strong family bond between Moore, his wife Alice, and his daughter Margaret. For example, due to his constant refusal to agree with the King's divorce, Moore is put in jail. After a long time of resistance, the King's officials decides to allow Moore to see his family in hopes that they can convince Moore to give in. The family reunion is very emotional and heartfelt. When the jailer asks the family to leave Thomas Moore demands Margaret's husband to try to distract the jailer so he can spend more time with his family. This shows the intense family love between Moore, Alice, and Margaret. Another instance in the play of the intense family bond is at Moore's execution. Margaret attends Thomas' execution, desperate to hold on to her father as long as she can. This shows the intense love between Thomas and his daughter. These two scenes in the play are important tools in showing the strong family bond the Moore family shares. However, these scenes are absent in the film rendition, which leads to a change in atmosphere for the audience.
