On Wednesday and Thursday of July 14th and 15th the Music in Multicultrural America class gave presentations on topics of their choosing to illustrate the diversity of music in this country stemming from the cultures of those around the world and the originality of our own music and cultures here in the United States The first group to present their project on Wednesday July 14th, was Group 3. Group 3's project was named "Talent vs. Image- The Making of Stars in the Music Industry". The presentation started with a power point presentation. Elvis was mentioned first, discussion not only his talent but the fact that he was made out to appear attractive to America's youth by selling his image through TV and his movies. This was said to stem from Vaudville theatre, where the talent was not only expected, but also an image and visual show. As another member of the group continued, this image was continued through other groups and people. This is exemplified by American Bandstand and how the performers never actually sang, but would pretend to so they could enhance their visual show. The final example was MTV's appearance in the early 1980s. Group 4's presentation, "Evolution of Rock and Roll" was done throu
Group 5 "Ladies and Gentlemen Rock and Roll" where the first words uttered on the new Music channel MTV in 1981. This also can create a new type of hip hop genre when this music becomes experimental. This was suiting because this group's presentation was entitled "Evolution of MTV". By the examples of topic in these presentations we can see that the music of the US is attributed to the many other cultures of the world, and showing that they United States' originality comes from the originality of the rest of the world coming together as one to create all these wonderful types of music and culture.
