Edvard Munch “adopted the view” of painting in series. His familiarity with death and despair helped him name the series of “Frieze of Life” and divide his series into four thematic heads, Loves Awakening, Loves Blossoms and Dies, Fear of Life, and Death. These series are linked in vertical lines and horizontal lines. With in theses four categories there are at least ten paintings. A comparison of one painting from in each series, and an explanation of Edvard Munch’s background will explain the tormented soul and innovative work of the impressionist Edvard Munch.

Before finishing the “Freize of Life” Edvard Munches father dies. Her wide eyes suggests awaken of sexuality and anticipation for the years ahead. He found artistic inspiration in nature an everyday tradges. The angles of the painting make the bodies cropped at the waist that gives the picture the sense of there being a crowd. The painting “The Three stages of Women” portrays three woman, One dressed in white, Munch named Irene. This is a hard time for Munch because he is experiencing his first solo exhibit, and dealing with death that surrounds him. Unfortunately the United States exhibit was the last Edvard Munch lived to see.
