Racial Discrimination
The issue of lynching and racial discrimination sadly, is still present in our world today. Lynching was a serious issue in the early 1900?s when Caucasians (mainly men) tortured and killed the black community. Racial discrimination is when people are stereotyped, treated differently and looked at funny if they are not of the same race. There was a bill that was passed called the anti-lynching bill. There is an amendment that states that everyone is equal under the law. Even though congress has passed those laws, lynching and racial discrimination has not stopped. People are hard-headed and will do as they please. Some individuals don?t care about the punishment they may receive, if convicted. Knowing that they did it is justice enough for them. When asked how the issue of racial discrimination still exists, the answer is yes and a lot comes to mind. Just the other day I turned on the news and saw a lot of brand new, some not even finished, big be
autiful homes in Charles County up in flames. What upsets me even more is all I see the news cover is the bad that Blacks are doing in Baltimore City. I think that as time goes by, racial discrimination will get better as it is now, but as for now we must take it one day at a time and we will understand better by and by. As I watched the story unfold, I learned that the fires were racially motivated and that the arsonists were Caucasians who were upset that Blacks were buying 800,000 dollar homes. But when the Caucasian lawyer that was representing the Black man had the court room imagine the torture that the little girl went through and turned the tables by saying ?imagine if the little girl was white,? the jury quickly changed their minds and found the black man not guilty. At the same time, Blacks are stereotyped as low-class, no nothing, dirty, illiterate people. This upsets me because Blacks are getting somewhere, trying to do better and someone else has to bring it down. Not all racial discrimination is toward Blacks. The judge and the jury were forgetting the point that the Black man was trying to get justice served for his daughter. These were the homes of black people. Since the early 1900?s lynching has decreased dramatically. All they were worried about was that a black man killed a White man. There are plenty of smart Blacks, but as I stated before, the media doesn?t focus on the good, they focus on the bad. The issue of lynching is around today but it is not as heard of.
