Alien Registration

             People always live in one community or society, either big or small communities, and if there's one person different from the other, most likely he/she will be treated differently. In every society, there's always be a case in where someone is discriminated, especially for non native speakers or people from other countries. As an International student, I have had experienced more than once being discriminated against, even before I came to The U.S. And things were getting worse after the 9/11 tragedy. Indeed, I experienced the discrimination in ways such as visa appliance and INS registration (Immigration and Neutralization Service) in The U.S.
             After the 9/11 tragedy, many countries, especially Islamic majority country, were treated differently by America in order to prevent America from being invaded by terrorists. Indonesia is one of those countries that face the discrimination. High school graduates who wanted to study in America were having a difficulty to get the student visa, including me. I graduated high school at May 2002, at that time I planned to join Shoreline C.C. at fall quarter witch starts at September, so I began the preparation to complete all of my documents. The first discrimination that I got was when I applied for a student visa. I applied for the student visa at mid-June, I went to the American embassy at Jakarta and I was shocked with their new policy witch is "to prevent any unwanted things to happen, a background check by the INS is required for every male applicants from the age of 17 to 40" resulting an eight months waiting for me, while my friends, witch is a girl, got her visa in within a month.
             The worst part of discrimination happened after I got into America.
