             Martin Gardner said "The last level of metaphor in the Alice books is this:that life, viewed rationally, and without illusion, appears to be a nonsense tale."This statement proves that"Alice`s Adventures in Wonderland" wrote by Lewis Carroll is a commentary on the roles that illusion and reason have in understanding people,life and oneself.All the elements of the story-characterization,setting,plot,point of view ant ton-higlight the tension between innocence and convention,between imagination and the lack of it. I agree with his statement because of various elements found in the text
             Firstly, we have the characters, that are dived in two categories:human, Alice, and inhuman, the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and the Dormouse.Alice is an English girl of about seven years old. She has an amazing dream about changing size and meeting various strange creatures underground in Wonderland. Alice is curious, polite, intelligent, trusting, and ready to accept the impossible. She can be quite bold; additionally, she tends to take herself seriously and sometimes has a rather quick temper.The Mad Hatter is, like the name says, a crazy hat-seller trapped in a perpetual tea-time. 'Mad as a hatter' was also a common expression in 19th century England, probably because many hatters did go mad from exposure to mercury, which was used in the process of making felt hats.He is often impolite and seemingly fond of confusing people.The March Hare is the Mad Hatter's friend and companion, equally crazy and discourteous. In Carroll's time, 'Mad as a march hare' was a common phrase alluding to the frenzied behavior of hares in March, their mating season.And finallt the Dormouse is the Hare and the Hatter's lethargic, much-abused companion.
             Alice arrives at the March Hare's house (after eating a little more of the enlarging mushroom) and finds the Hare and the Hatter sitting at a large table outside, drinking tea with a Dormouse--which they use as a cushion--...
