In the narrative, A Good Man Is Hard to Find, written by O'Connor, the writer tells the story about a family on a trip. The family is going on a trip to Florida. The family consist of a mother, father, three children, and a grandmother. The grandmother doesn't want to go to Florida, instead she wants to go to East Tennessee. The story goes on to tell about a man that has escaped from the Federal Pen. He calls himself the misfit.
             As the family begins the trip, the grandmother is pointing out places and talking briefly about each place and its significance. She notices many different sights, one of which she says looks like it could be a picture. They traveled along for many miles, only mentioning the misfit a few times. The family stopped at The Tower for some sandwiches. While they were there the misfit came up several times. The waitress even said that it would not surprise her if the misfit walked right in there and attacked the place. The grandmother tells the owner that he is a good man. She told him this because he let two fellows come in a charge some gas, because they looked alright. The guys never came back to pay him for the gas.
             The family begins the trip again. They passed by an old plantation and the grandmother recalled the way that it looked as she remembered it. She told the children about a secret treasure hidden in the walls. She knew that this didn't exist but knew that it would make the children want to go see the plantation. With a lot of begging and many pleas the father agreed to take the family to the plantation.
             As the family traveled down the dirt road, the grandmother realized that she had confused this plantation with the plantation that she recalled from Tennessee.
