Dark Secrets: Legacy of Lies
My Independent reading book that I choose for the book of the month was "Dark Secrets; Legacy of Lies", by Elizabeth Chandler. The main purpose the author wrote this book was mainly she enjoys writing stories that are mysterious or romantic. She loves to write stories that she knows the public will enjoy. My purpose in reading this book might be just the same as Chandler's reason. I enjoy reading book that are scary or mysterious stories that make me sit on the edge of my seat. This story is written in first person, and the narrator in this story is a girl named Meghan. The point of view contributes to the author's purpose because the story is mainly about her life or her "past life". As she discovers more clues, she thinks them over in her head, and flashbacks occur to give you a feel of what really is going on. With her being the narrator we have more of an understanding and a feel for the story. In this story the exposition was at the beginning of the book when Meghan had the dreams of a house she never was in or saw. The rising action occurred when her grandmother invited her to the house, and once Meghan arrived, she realizes that her grandmother's house was the house in her dreams. The plot was when she went to a fortune
Well, she was completely wrong because he loved her from the day he saw her but didn't admit it. "Until Matt touched my check, I hadn't realized I was crying. And that's exactly what happened in this novel. I also found another quote that describes the setting, "It was as if the first part of my dream was missing. In the dreams they would fall in love, and then she would be murdered. That's why this book desires to be a piece of literature. An example of was the irony that was incorporated. In one chapter he began to show that he likes her by picking her up when she fell in the hallway, smiling at her, holding her hand, etc. He didn't want to give in and watch everything atrocious happen that was in his dreams. Chandler would always throw in something new that was mysterious or unexplainable events in different parts of the novel. These quotations convey the author's purpose because the book is about the past that she never knew she had. I believe that the theme of the novel is don't assume you know everything. And the best part was the twist at the end, when Matt and Meghan are with each other. And The Denouement was at the end When Matt revealed his true feelings for Meghan and they planned on marrying.
