             Marriage Essay
            
             An elderly couple slowly stroll through the park on their daily walk. The wedded pair stroll past an "illegally" married gay couple who are brushing up on tabloid gossip featuring the latest twenty four hour Hollywood marriage. The institution of marriage has taken on new meaning with each generational change. Not only limited to the passing of years, marriage also assumes different forms depending upon specific social groups, religions, and creeds. This act defines many characteristics of a certain person besides a change in living situation.
            
             By creating a definition of marriage, the individual is also defining themselves. Someone's explanation of marriage gives insight into the belief structure of the before mentioned person. I was raised and baptized catholic, but do not hold the same ideas of marriage as my parents and other Christians possess. Nonetheless, my ideas of marriage show a growth or change in my ideology. The definition of marriage that I hold is the union of two persons who acknowledge their love for each other and by doing so vow to seek a higher committed relationship.
            
             The vagueness of this definition is purposely done in order to leave room for interpretation. Similar to many of our constitutional laws, this enables inclusion of new aspects of marriage with the shifting of the year. For example, the issue that is receiving the most attention in regards to marriage is same sex marriage. For me personally, this issue is clearly an invasion of rights. This reduces the gay community to second class citizens. The sanctions that are currently in place do not acknowledge the commitment of two consenting adults in which neither party is being victimized. The before mentioned statement should be placed on anyone who wishes to be married.
