American Dreams
The new show American Dreams follows one family through a time period that changed our nation forever. Set in the 60's this show illustrates how the Pryor family deals with racial issues, the loss of their president, a mother who is trying to go back to school, and a daughter who dances on the hit show American Bandstand. The Pryor family being strict Catholics has a hard time dealing with some of these issues. My first opinion of this new hit series which airs on NBC is that this show will be a hit for many seasons to come.
If your looking for a show to take you back to when you were young or you just want to know more about this great time period, tune in on Sunday nights and watch what will happen to the Pryor family next. JJ Pryor, the oldest of the four children, is the star of his football team and his competing for a spot on the Notre Dame Football team. Meg Pryor, who dances on American Bandstand, was taught the dancing styles that were popular during the sixties. All of the characters are seen in the sixties style which is a pertinent part of the show. This style was a key part of the show. When people think of the sixties they definitely think about the music. style that was common to the time period was taught to the actors. The Pryor parents are dealing with issues of birth control and the mother wanting to attend college classes. The show has included many hits from Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, and Jay and the Americans. The cast used is very believable as being a true family. Without using the style of the period it would be unknown as to what period the writer was trying to depict. The real life excerpts from American Bandstand are a great touch that helps to round out the show. The costumes, sets and props also had the 60's feel. The music chosen really helps to get into the feel of the show.
