Miracles

             In class discussions and in the readings the word miracle is defined as a violation of the natural law, and positive instances of those violations. In discussions miracles boiled down to be a supernaturally caused event; an even different from what would have occurred in the normal course of events. In class examples of miracles that we have talked about or mentioned are examples such as healings, stigmata, apparitions, Virgin Mary, miracle of Lourdes, and etc. To answer the question can we believe in miracles I will not give my personal belief, but a broad answer from what we have studied in class. In the book of Lourdes there were many cases of miracles. From healing of the eyes to the curing of tuberculosis these were all cases of events that people who are religious or have some kind of belief in God would call a miracle. David Hume argument based on natural law gives his view point of miracles and explains in detail that miracles again are violation of nature and that human experience is uniform and, thus, miracles may be possible but they are far-fetched. There must be a uniform experience against every event. Otherwise the event would not merit that label. Hume mentions that nothing is venerated a miracle if it ever happened in the common course of nature. In relation to our religion class in some text it mentions that God didn't do miracles just to do them. He did miracles in response to faith and from their sincerity to God, and people either recognized the fulfillment of the prophecy or simply recognized the hand of God. In answer to the question can we believe in miracles it's our choice. We can believe if the deep down knowledge of God is awakened. But for those who have shut God out of their lives and their worldview, miracles won't do anymore to convince them from hearing others.
