The article, "Needed: A license to Drink", by Mike Brake, explores various reasons to issue a drinking license to those who wish to consume alcohol. The author stresses the facts of the addiction to alcohol as a major health concern in America. Following this, the article looks at all of the reprocautions that drinking has on families, society, and individuals. It proposes that a license would need to be attained to ingest alcohol. The method to get the license is comparable to acquiring a driver's license, and comes with consequences. Based on these facts, along with personal experiences, this proposal for a drinking license does entice me to locate more information on how to create a law and enforce it. The most important argument Brake makes, is the issue that alcohol addiction is one of the biggest public-health concerns in the United States. These are the people that kill others. It is dangerous and harmful to our country. It would cut the amount of money we spend for alcoholism. country that are incurable, but addiction to alcohol could be significantly decreased with this license. I fully support this idea because I know how it affects families from a first hand view. On the level of human life, it would save several thousand lives per year. Also, this license to drink would cut down underage drinking by an enormous amount. It would be encouraging to overcome another obstacle in this world of strife. Finally this "Liquor License" is a good idea because it does not affect those 90% of Americans who don't have a drinking problem. Brake lets us know that alcoholism costs about 90 billion dollars per year. For example it affects the liver, heart, kidneys, and central nervous system. A license would make with alcoholism aware of their disease, and prevent it from affecting others. It would save marriages, families, and possibly your own life. Alcohol causes abuse, suicide, divorce, and crimes. Individuals, families, and society are all adversely affected by alcoholism.
