Spartacus

In the last century before the birth of the new faith called Christianity which was destined to overthrow the pagan tyranny of Rome and bring about a new society, the Roman Republic stood at the very center of the civilized world... .Yet, even at the zenith of her pride and power, the republic lay fatally stricken with a disease called...human slavery." The movie Spartacus is based on a true story of an ex-slave creating an army to fight against the tyranny of Rome. In the years 73-74 B.C.E., Spartacus led a slave revolt against the Roman Empire. The real Spartacus was born into a group of nomadic herders who at one point served in the Roman army. After deserting the army he was captured and was enslaved, trained as a gladiator. Spartacus broke out of gladiator school and formed his own army of 70,000 runaway slaves. After a stint of victories the army was defeated in southern Italy. Spartacus was killed in the battle. The movie portrays Spartacus as a born slave who has been working in a quarry since he was thirteen. At the beginning of the story, Spartacus is taken from the quarry and brought to the gladiatorial school of Batiatus in Capua. What follows the arrival at the school is weeks of hard training. Spa

Spartacus takes his senate baton(symbolizing the power of Rome) and breaks it in half. To the Roman people he promises that he will squish the slave army. " When we Glabrus gets back to Rome with the news he is sent into exile. Batiatus talks with a Gracchus, a powerful senator about Crassus' involvement in the slave revolt. While Julius Caesar is left as Commander of the Garrison of Rome. He has them sent to his home in Rome. One rainy night an emissary from the east arrives at Spartacus' camp. The politicians began to care more about getting fat and having the most female slaves as possible instead of worrying about a massive slave army or any other danger to Rome. After Marcellus and Batiatus laugh at this he shouts, "I'm not an animal. During the fight the Ethiopian has Spartacus at the point of his trident but does not kill him. Batiatus narrowly escapes with his life. He wants revenge for losing all of his gladiators. When the time to fight comes, Spartacus finds out that he will be paired with an Ethiopian.
