Fahrenheit 451
In this book called Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, there are many characters such as Mildred Montag, Captain Beatty and Professor Faber. This book takes place in a futuristic American city where firemen start fires rather then put them out. Where people do not enjoy books, nature, and spending time by themselves. They do not think Independently or have meaningful conversations. Instead they drive fast, watch a lot of TV and listen to the radio on headphones attached to their ears. He encounters many difficulties when his wife commits suicide by swallowing a whole bottle of sleeping pills. Also when a women asks him to be burned alive with her books. He starts to question his life when he meets Clarisse McClellan. Later in the book she is
When people are caught reading alarms sound and the fireman go to the house and have them burn the books and arrest them. The reason why i connected with her is not because I think reading should be outlawed it is because I do not have a love for it but it is ok that other people do. Enemy Jets during the war appear and destroy the city. He also gets help from a retired English professor named Faber. I like this part because it was fast pace and upbeat. The theme of the story is that Bradbury thinks that in the future it will be taken by television and fast moving cars. He gets away and they send a hound, helicopters, and a television crew after him. On the other side of the river he meets a group of people who love books and was led by a guy named Granger. Montag and the new people he met set out to find survivors and rebuild the city. One day Montag reads a poem from a poetry book and it offends his wife and her friends and when he leaves to go to talk to a supervisor she sounds the alarm on him and leaves. He escapes by going into the river and changing his clothes to hide the scent. The part of the story I liked the most was when Montag ran and found Granger and his friends. He does this by planting books in fireman's houses and calling the alarm himself. They make him burn his own house and then arrest him.
