A Dollhouse

             The relationship of the characters in the play has a major impact on how the storyline of the play goes. The characters actions and how they deal with certain situations determine how the play takes place. The three main characters in the play are Nora, Torvald, and Krogstad. The relationships between these three characters reveal the theme of the play. Throughout the play, the actions and words that these three characters portray have a very big impact on the outcome of the play.
             Nora Helmer is Torvald's loving wife. She would absolutely do any and everything to please her husband. Nora was always a very happy person. The only thing that bothered her was the deep dark secret that she had been keeping from her husband for years. She had secretly gone and forged a signature so that she could borrow money from the bank to take her husband on a trip. The only reason she did this was because she was worried of Torvald's health. She thought that a trip would make his health better. Nora had secretly been working other jobs just to get enough money back so that she could pay back her debt. The fact that Nora would go through such extreme measures shows how much courage she had and that she loved her husband very much.
             Torvald Helmer was a man with very strong beliefs. He believed that everything should be done the right way. Torvald strongly believed that his part in the marriage was to provide for his wife. He seemed to be more worried with his reputation in the community than he did with what his wife thought. That was demonstrated when Nora tried to talk him into letting Krogstad keep his job. He did not want to take any suggestions, especially one from his wife. Torvald becomes very angry when he finds out of the secret that his wife had been keeping from him. He could not believe that she would do something like that and then keep it from him for so long.
