Gentrification within Chicagoland Area
As my mind matures, I have gained the ability to empirically analyze the drastic levels of social change within inner city neighborhoods. I have developed a concerned with the impacts of housing renewal policies, specifically, those policies which focus on resources on inner urban residential areas, although it is hoped that the discussion has implications for urban policy more generally. Evaluating housing renewal is an increasingly difficult task, but through it, I have understood that my equality of life still remains in development. Many of the articles within the Declaration of Human Rights still question my inclusion of this nation. I say this due to the oppression that remains within my community. It is no longer sufficient to assume that the areas upon which renewal resources are targeted will remain in a poor or declining condition in the absence of intervention. The impacts of renewal are superimposed on increasingly complex patterns of urban change, linked to the shift from an industrial to a 'post-industrial' economy. The seemingly one-way process of decline in inner urban areas through "suburbanization" and "de-urbanization" has been reversed in some cases through the process of gentrification.
On the west side, gentrification extends outward from downtown along two corridors: one toward a large medical complex just west of Ashland Avenue and another toward the new United Center. Over the years, the Federal government and subsidiary services in the nation's capital have sustained a vibrant core with a large base of professional employment. The media consciously promotes these differences and successfully use them to add to the process of segregation that is taking place on a daily basis. The education system resembles the employment limitations that are often set by inadequate resources. Some have tried to significantly advance our understanding of the dynamic interdependency between social and economic processes in the gentrification of inner cities. I have been fortunate to recognize this transition, but discontent with the fact that some of my friends and residents (or once residents) within my community, due to the process of gentrification, will not be employed within those offices. Regardless of whether gentrification reshapes the entire urban status gradient or is simply creating islands of renewal in a sea of decay, in order to evaluate the coherence of theories of gentrification it is crucial to determine precisely how these neighborhoods stand out from their surroundings. Somehow the media has unfortunately been able to reiterate the painted portrait of instilled unity within these communities. We must reverse this logic by seeking out visible evidence to reinvest in the built environment prior to analyzing statistical measures correlating with neighborhood change. Chicago replaced lost manufacturing jobs with rapid finance and producer services growth. It is the media that leads those who reside within misfortune to move to the suburbia areas with the hope of attaining better opportunities for their future; unknowingly these people are supporting gentrification and as time grows, will end up in a situation that is perverse. Over the past 3 decades, many have refused to acknowledge the growing social polarization and segregation within inner cities across the globe. Rehabilitation and new construction also spreads throughout Highland Park surrounding the University of Chicago, deep in the south side. The fact that its interest has been deficient necessitates major reason for concern. Other problems such as: the growth in non-patriarchal households and the growth of African-American poverty are both important factors that show differences in social classes.
