Motivation in the workplace
Since the 1980's, the Canadian workforce has been confronted with social and economic transformations such as increased competition, technological advances, globalization and changing labor market demographics. These changes have altered the structure of the workforce by increasing its diversity and changing labor relations. In order to get any ask done, may it be at home or at work motivation is essential. There is an old saying that you can take a horse to the water but you cannot force it to drink; it will drink only if its thirsty - so with people. They will do what they want to door otherwise motivated to do. Whether it is to mop the floor of a grocery store or work as an executive at a five star hotel. They must be motivated or driven to it, either by themselves or through external stimulus. "Most contemporary theories recognize that motivation begins with individual needs and their underlying drives" (1). Out of all, Abraham Maslow's Needs Hierarchy Theory is one of the best-known theories. According to Maslow, there seems to be a hierarchy into which human needs arrange themselves. Many fast food workers are not recognized and appreciated for their work. When an individual is one of many employees, primarily working alone either at a cash register, acting at a set or helping stop the fire, it is very difficult meeting others and form relationships. Management and employees alike need to heed to his advice because in order to make the workplace a better place, management and workers must take a look at themselves and make some changes. An efficient feedback method is a multi-source feedback system. Self-actualization is the desire to become what one is capable of becoming, for example if you know that you can paint than you should paint and become a painter. A fast food worker makes minimum wages and so the management should make sure that they get enough hours so that they can make efficient money to pay their rent and live comfortably. Furthermore a high turnover rate means that employees who remain at an organization face the dissolution of relationships, which have been formed. In order to solve this problem management must explore many of the above-mentioned methods of promoting positive employee motivation: recognizing an employee, making them feel important and encouraging the formation of bonds. However, recognizing employees and their effort must be complemented with efforts to satisfy their employees need to belong if they want their workers to be as motivated as possible. Any company, regardless of its size, needs to make the most of its resources and happy, motivated workers yield positive results and help maximize profits. Teamwork, whether employees develop goals together or fund raise for a common cause, is another method of bringing employees together. Management, in some factories, has chosen to adopt assembly "islands" rather than assembly lines. because they tend to have the highest strengths until they are some -what satisfied.
