Robert Frosts writings
I have learned a lot of things during this course about myself and about American Modern Literature. In a personal way I have learned to appreciate some of the things we now have in this era. There are a few things from this course that affected me and made me feel this way. In19th century things were a lot like now but just expressed differently and that really has had the most profound affect on me. I think that Robert Frost was the first author we read about that opened my eyes to see that life isn't always as we think it is. His poem, " The Road Not Taken" he speaks of
ever frightful walks of life we all have to take. In conclusion, although I have only mentioned a few things we have been assigned to read I have learned a lot more than just what was mentioned. This is another example of how our lives can been changed in an instance and we need to live everyday as if it were our last . We may not use the same language as the authors of this era did but we still have the same issues going on now that they did then. We have to decide which path is best for us and sometimes wonder if we choose the right one. Then there was Stephen Crane with "The Open Boat", which was another great example of how the world affects us in all times. I certainly have learned to take everyday more serious and have faith in what is meant to be will be and just to live life to the fullest. I have really enjoyed this course and think that all the assignments are appropriate and give a wonderful sense of the Early American Modernism period. They had a strong willed captain aboard who encourages his crew "We'll get ashore alright" as the waves were pounding against their ship during a sudden storm. This story really was an eye opener for me. This story was about four men who set out to sea right here in Florida and never knew what was going to happen to them. Each day when I leave my home, my family, and my dogs I make sure they know I love them to ensure that if something were to happen to me they know that. From early ages, we as people have to decide whether or not to go one direction or the other.
