The Impact of Music

Music. How has music shaped my identity? To begin with, music plays an important role in shaping one's identity. Without it, one would not be a whole person. Music has helped several people shape their personality and has made them take control of the person they want to become. In the present day, music has played a major role in influencing our society and culture. Music has become difficult to escape from because we are not only exposed to music via the radio, but also tapes, CD's, television programs, cinema films, as well as being an integral part of television advertising. Music has intruded more and more into public spaces, such as supermarkets, shops, waiting rooms, buses, taxis, aircraft, bars, restaurants, cafes, from the passing "ghetto-blaster" car, and not to mention the bombardment of uninvited musical sounds. Today, most six to seven year olds have probably come into contact with more music than those people living before the age of electronic media did in their whole lives. The numerous amount of music exposure that has intruded in today's society has influenced several youngsters, including myself, to have different personalities and behaviors.By taking a walk on the sidewalk or just observing people in genera

This type of music, which is called "pop," influenced several youngsters to dress in a conformist way or to "pose" off the pop stars. Music has changed me for the better and has influenced me in both positive and negative ways. " When I began junior high, I became infatuated by all the boy bands, or "pop music". There were all sorts of groups in my high school, yet later on I realized that these various groups not only but also existed in our school and outside in the rest of the world as well. When someone is referred to as punk, that person can absorb it and interpret it in several ways, such as being a conformist, a poser, or having your "own" kind of wardrobe. My rebellious and care free attitude was similar to that of my friend's attitudes and behaviors. I became skeptical about the music I was listening to and the clothes I was wearing, so I decided to change into a different person and not be known as rebellious anymore. Almost all the young girls knew the lyrics to the "Backstreet Boys" or "98 Degrees" songs and nearly all the guys enjoyed the "Britney Spears" songs. Ever since my first birthday, music has influenced me and has helped me become the person I am today. However, when my interests changed, my taste in music altered as well, so I became a different person with new styles of clothing and a new behavior. Once I began to listen to a different genre of music, I began to gradually convert to a different person. l, one would realize that wardrobe and music have a huge correlation. My perspectives on the way I viewed life changed so it became a new and different ball game. The word "punk" has had a huge influence on several people, including myself. The rebellious girl was no longer present.
