Cocaine, Who uses it and why
Cocaine is becoming more and more popular as times moves on. For some people engaging in the illegal activities of cocaine is a way of life and for others it is just for mere pleasure. Even though it is prohibited by acts of legislature, society still sees thousands of cases dealing with narcotics each year. It is clearly understood that males run the cocaine market, and it is a fact that males are said to be twice as likely as females to report using cocaine (Erickson 117). Does the economy of cocaine stop here, or are there other people that are involved with the steel drug. It needs to be addressed who is taking part of the underground drug economy and what legal actions are being taken to put an end to this acts. The first question that needs to be answered is to figure out who actually is involved with this narcotic. It can be easily seen that males mainly run the economy of the drug industry. Recently over the past years it is interesting to see that currently, society is seeing more female roles taking part in the abuse and selling of cocaine. A positive correlation is shown between prostitution and drug sellers (Fagan 10). Sigmund Freud also advocated the use of cocaine in the treatment of Asthma, wasting disease, and syphilis (Burnett 5). It is legal for society to use alcohol and tobacco, so it is even possible for these numbers to decline if there is a positive relationship between using alcohol, tobacco, and drugs? Most users of cocaine in this society do not fully understand the reasons why cocaine is prohibited and what actions are being taken to abolish this narcotic. According to "The Steel Drug" many people are unaware that there is a law relating to cocaine use. S and Bush wants to end these affairs (Allen 13 and 14). Drug usage is becoming more and more of a problem in today's society and their needs to be more enforced action to stop illegal usage in the drug economy. Also back when Nixon was President and recommended decriminalization, the marijuana usage increased dramatically (Califano 15 and 16). Kids do not see the legal actions being taken to stop drug abusers. There are other people who are not involved with this drug that do want to legalize this activity and believe that it might benefit society. If many people do not realize the consequences of using illegal products, then there will just be more and more participants as time goes on. According to a survey taken of participants who do use cocaine, only fourteen percent of participants believe that they would receive jail time (Erickson 118). Most women would just make one income by selling their self on the streets, and now they are making two incomes by becoming involved with the drug market. People can and will find so many ways around a system that it would be worse to just legalize the drug. A positive correlation does occur dealing with half of the participants who opposed legislation having a friend who has been arrested for possession or has been caught themselves (Erickson 119). Cocaine at one time was legal, but not it has been abused in so many ways that it's almost impossible to turn around a narcotic that is causing so many problems into a legal drug.
