Lion King

One of the most popular Disney animated musicals is The Lion King. The Lion King presents the story of a lion cub's journey to adulthood and acceptance of his royal destiny. Borrowing elements from Hamlet, classical mythology, and African folk tales, The Lion King tells a mythic coming-of-age tale with a combination of spectacular visuals and lively music. Since 1989's The Little Mermaid, the mustical element of any Disney animated picture has been nearly as important as the visuals. The Lion King is the best animated film ever made. Though The Lion King contains murder, and a fair share of violence, that is what makes The Lion King such a great and unique animation. Never before has Disney made this type of "adult" animation. Lighting and color are used to highlight the shifting tone of the picture (the sunny warmth of Mufasa's kingdom to the dreary barrenness of Scar's), and the animators have never lost sight that their subjects are not human.
