Moby Dick

             The novel Moby Dick by Herman Melville is a story about a tremendous hair rising voyage with men who are ready to face hardship and nameless horrors, as they dared to challenge God's most fabulous and enormous creation. Moby Dick is not just another book based on the writer's own thoughts maybe even experiences at sea. It is truly a symbolic story which shows us as the reader the conflicts with the good and the evil.
             The story begins in Massachusetts, New Bedford on Nantucket Island. This is novel is set in the mid-nineteen century of America, which was the heart of the American whaling industry. Therefore, the setting does change when they decide to go on the whaling ship called Pequod as they voyage around the world. This breath taking story is told by a young man named Ishmael. He wants to become a sailor and head out to the great big sea. He accomplishes his dream when he joins the ship Pequod. Also, joining the crew is a native named Queequeg from the Fiji Island's who is a harpooner expert. During his time on the ship he develops a bond with Ishmael and they become very good friends. The protagonist of the novel and also the captain for the ship Pequod is one legged captain named Ahab. Throughout the entire novel his obsession and motivation is to find and kill the enormous creature that cost him the lost of his leg in the past. The antagonist of this novel is Moby Dick the gigantic, great white whale who is being hunted by the crew of the Pequod ship. One night Ahab gathers the crew around him and tells them what he wants from them to catch the great white whale. The crew eagerly takes up his challenge to kill what they believe is the deadly creature. After discussing the plan the rest of the night is spent with celebration.
