Teen Depression

Teen Depression is a serious issue that occurs in the every day lives of a significant amount of adolescents. I choose the topic Teen Depression so I could learn more about what teens deal with in their every day lives compared to the times of my adolescents when I was depressed as well. This topic became of strong interest to me because I have family and friends who suffer from depression and it would be good to know how to help your loved ones who are depressed. Teen depression is a big issue in adolescent psychology because it controls the thoughts, emotions and actions of adolescents. The main issues we will be discussing in this paper are the causes of Teen Depression along with possible ways to reduce depression. Teen Depression is an area that has been studied and written about a decent amount. There has been extensive research with strong conclusions to the causes of depression but the researchers also discovered that depression isn't an open issue with the teens which leads to kids not getting the help they need with their depression. Cecilia Essau came up with the conclusion that depressed teens usually come from families with depressed parents especially a depressed mother. Depressed parents

Another way parents could help would be by keeping their kids involved with after school activities such as sports, school clubs or by obtaining a job. The research tells us that a major cause of depression is drug abuse. High expectations of the teens were also mentioned as being a cause for depression, which was true for Lisa in her everyday life. This was especially true in Jenna's case because of the on going divorce in her life. I could tell that the girls were a little uneasy during the interview. Lisa has a depressed boyfriend who is also a drug user. I also wanted to know who could help reduce depression. and teens also result in a lack of attachment, emotion and communication towards each other. This study was limited to a female perspective. Jenna is 18 and her parents are in the process of divorce. Both girls told me that their friends play a major role in reducing depression but their parents are not of any help. Early sexual intercourse, drinking of any kind, smoking marijuana and/or doing any form of illegal drugs has been shown to increase odds of depression. Jenna's father also has a new girl friend that has moved into the house. Lisa said her family lead to her depression years ago, which was when her parents were going through divorce as well. I think that if the girls didn't know me then they wouldn't volunteer as much personal information.
