Life and Death
Everyone has to spend through the cycle of life. We are brought to life by birth, raised in life, and end by death. Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote "The Handsomest Drowned Man in The World". There is an ironic about the dead man brings to village a new life. Joao Guimarraes Rosa wrote the other story named "The Third Bank of the River"; it brings the images of confusion, embarrassment, and guilt to the readers. The identity is the main theme that flows through the two stories. The wife and the women in the village give the identity to a father and the dead man that bring the life in new ways. The new ways of life will erase the old ways and idea that are no longer sufficient for creating an understanding of their world. The first important things to recognize immediately in the two stories " The Third Bank of The River", and " The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World" is that they can be read as a retelling events or the metaphor concerning to death of the loved one. The father in "The Third Bank of The River" is described as the weak man. According to other people, he is a "dutiful, orderly, straightforward man" and "he had these qualities since adolescence or even childhood" (Rosa 29). The father feels de
which way to turn, yes, over there, that's Esteban's village" (Marquez 105). They imagine his life "they could see him in life, condemned to going through doors sideways, cracking his head on crossbeam, remaining on his feet during visits, not knowing what to do with his soft, pink, sea lion hands. They try to get him back but it's impossible. There is a conflict that the author created in the story "The Third Bank of the River". She is simply aiding the son in getting over the loss of his father by allows her son to take food from the family every night and leave it for father. The conflict between one feels negative effects from emotion after the event, and the memory of the event stays in mind of those whom it affects. After the mother realized that father never comes back, she regrets for what she had done to her husband. At first, in their eyes, he is a stranger, an oddity, and an inconvenience. They have to live without him forever. There is an ironic about the dead man who makes the village alive. Life is too short for them and they have to value it. No matter what they do, he won't come back. He never marries; he offers the excuse that "father needed me" (Rosa 32), but he really mean that he needs his father.
