Attention Deficit Disiorder

In today's society it seems to many people use medication as an answer to all their problems. Even though sometimes it is very necessary, a lot of times its not. What did they do years ago when there wasn't all these medications weren't available. How did people deal with ADHD. I feel in today's society we medicate kids at to early of an age, again sometimes they may need it but other times they don't. Maybe medication is the easy way out. Maybe we need to look a little harder to try to come up with better plans or strategies to help a child with disabilities learn more efficiently. Here I will be talking about a six year old African-American boy named George who is very intelligent and suffers from hyperactivity or Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder (ADHD). Now the definition of ADHD is when a child exhibits developmentally inappropriate inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. Combined that with a six year old child and there is sure to be some difficulties in the learning environment. In George's case he would take at least two to three minutes to get started after she gave him an assignment or he might not start is assignment at all, generally being off task, he would be out of his seat, hitting and tickling hi

To accommodate students with short attention span, academic assignments should be brief and have feedback regarding accuracy immediately. Classroom interventions for a student with ADHD like George has to be fair and appropriate for all students. This was done during baseline (before the beginning of the self-monitoring plan). And children who do suffer from ADHD are at risk for school failure. , the amount of time it took George to start his reading assignment after she had instructed him to do so), to reduce his off-task and disruptive behaviors, and to increase more appropriate behaviors, but with little success. s peers and talking and singing aloud. The plans are to ensure that students with ADHD are provided a Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE) and have special classroom interventions. " I feel it is very important to tell a child how he or she is doing as soon as possible, and do it an a positive way. I guess the biggest question I have is it never once said anything about an IEP for George. Once George started the task, they each stopped their watches and recorded the time elapsed. Longer projects should be broken up into manageable parts. So I guess a positive teacher a supportive grandmother is the best medication you can have. This system is an example of behavioral strategy proven to be helpful in improving both the academic and behavioral functioning of students with ADHD. George's teacher had two independent observers recording data each time the teacher instructed George to start a task, they started their stopwatches.
