What I have learned

             The music was blaring to the beat of my rapid heartbeat. In less than three minutes, I would be playing in the district basketball finals for the first time in my high school career. Mixed emotions of nervousness, excitement, and fear raced through my body. According to the Ann Arbor News, we were the team to win, and the pressure was beginning to set in.
             As the whistle blew, and the tip was ours, all the pressure was lifted from my shoulders and it was time to play in what could be the biggest game of our lives.
             By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, all sense of fatigue and pain was no longer with me-adrenaline had kicked in. Each possession was so very important. I scrambled on the floor for the loose ball, jumped with all my might for the offensive rebounds, and fought like mad to seal a win for the Saline girls basketball team.
             With 30 seconds left to go, and down by three, I knew the game was still within our grasp. With the ball in my hands, I thrust a swift pass to my teammate, in hopes of tying the game. As the seconds on the clock ran down, the ball was thrown in the air. The crowd went silent, and everyone sat for what seemed like an eternity, as the ball finally fell through the net. Throwing oursleves on top of her, the team screamed and cheered. The game wasn't over yet, however. We now would go into a two-minute overtime. The district championship was within reach and now was the time to prove to the fans, my coach, and most importantly, myself, that all the long practices, and intense workouts had finally paid off.
             Our team was once again in the same situation-down by three with only seconds to go. However, this time we were not so lucky.
             The buzzard rang as I fell to my knees, tears streaming down my face. We had lost and the reality of it all was beginning to come in clear.
             This district championship game was one I will never forget. Yes, we did lose, but I could not hang my head. H...
