Vanderbilt University has many unique qualities that has set the university as a top tier university in the public's eye. Many of their different qualities have played a major role in my own decision to apply. My admiration for Vanderbilt goes back to the time when my family moved from Zambia to Nashville, Tennessee in 1972. My family moved from Zambia, located in central Africa, when the government became corrupt and unstable for families. When my family first arrived in America, we settled in Nashville, Tennessee and would go on "Discover Nashville" tours. After the first time of discovering Vanderbilt, I fell in love with the college. I knew I had to attend Vanderbilt University.
             Vanderbilt is located in an urban area and that quality alone was important to me. I always want to stay in a major city. I like the constant motion that comes along with a major urban area and the vast number of people a person can meet. Vanderbilt has a very beautiful campus and their buildings are very rich with the newest technology. It also does not hurt that Vanderbilt is also located in my hometown of Nashville. I am very close with my family, and I will greatly miss them next year while I attend college. I feel that if I stay in Nashville, I can still be a major part of my family in their day-to-day routines. I am an only child, and my mother has taken the idea of me going to college the hardest. She does not want me to go to far, because she does not know how she will be able to handle it. My decision to apply to college has been met with great approval in my overall family, because I will be the first person in my family to attend college.
             Another reason Vanderbilt is appealing is because it has a diverse student population. Vanderbilt has people from all different social classes and ethnic cultures. Vanderbilt has a significant number of Asian Indians compared to other universities. I fee
