Is every man free?

             America claims itself to be "land of the free"; the right to franchise was given to African-Americans, February 3, 1870 later women suffrage was granted by way of constitutional amendment on August 26 1920. These amendments were rarified in order to push our society further forward and to promote equality among our peoples. February 24, 2004 President George W. Bush made a speech from the Roosevelt Room to the country calling for a constitutional amendment to "protect marriage" by defining it as a legal union between one man and one woman, thus abolishing gay marriage and the rights afforded to heterosexuals. What is 'marriage"? According to Webster's 21st Century Dictionary, marriage is the taking of a spouse or, to unite spouses.
             Secondly it defines "spouse" as a husband or wife". Some may plead for a religious definition of marriage or one based on certain morals. Who defines marriage? The people? The married? The government? Since the states are, free to interpret laws, mandates, and institutions not defined by the constitution (as allowed by the elastic clause of the Enumerated laws) and marriage is not defined by the constitution, the states may interpret the term marriage how they please, as long as it still adheres to those guidelines that are defined by the constitution. The ambiguity of the term "marriage" is incredibly uncanny. Trying to pin one definition on such a broad and encompassing this term is ludicrous.
             In many ways Bush's reasons for the amendment were too broad and had not had enough thought put in to them to be able to recognize their fallacies. In his proposal he
