Should condoms be distributed in schools?
Do you like the thought of telling your parents that you are pregnant or have contracted HIV? I didn't think so, but did you know that condoms are a way of preventing those issues if you are sexually active? In a society, that promotes sex, through the use of music videos, internet, television shows, news, etc it is highly likely that teenagers are sexually active. If a parent in America believes that their teenager is still a "virgin," in most cases they are mistaken. More than one million Americans are being infected with HIV alone each year, and more than twelve million other sexually transmitted diseases are being "shared" in the United States alone, which proves that it is highly crucial to have effective measures of preventing such diseases. An inexpensive, almost one hundred percent safe way of preventing STD's not to mention, unwanted pregnancies are condoms. I believe that schools should provide teenagers with condoms because they are a means to practicing safe sex. Most of the teens that become pregnant or have STDs come from low backgrounds and are less likely to buy condoms, because they either cannot afford it, or don't know about it, which is why schools should give out condoms. Many colleges hand out condoms for free these days. All this could have been prevented if schools gave out condoms. Some schools and parents are afraid to give student's condoms in fear it will push them to have more sex before they are truly ready. " It works by preventing the man's sperm and infection to going out into the female's body. I'm sure most of you know that condoms are a made of a rubber that fit over the "man erected penis. Condoms are cheaper than getting an abortion. Students will have sex one way or another, with or without a condom and I think most high schools need to accept this fact. Another issue is that teens do not realize that they do not need parental consent to buy condoms, so they practice sex with out using condoms. Young people today want to know about condoms how to use them and where they can get them but most schools do not provide that type of information. One third of all teenage pregnancies end in abortion, about 45% of those were because of unwanted pregnancies and most of those teenagers had not used condoms. Other parents want schools to not only talk about condoms and abstinence but they want schools to give out not only condoms but birth control pills and other contraceptives. Schools are slowly conforming but it is still in debate over what is too much and what is enough for teenagers. High Schools do not even dare speak of doing such a thing. Condoms are also a lot let painful, than getting an abortion.
