The tragedy that happened on September 11th has been on all of our minds. It was an act of hate that we are not going to forget anytime soon. But through all the tragedy, we still stand strong as a nation. We are here to fight for what we believe in. The acts on September 11th may have destroyed buildings, but it will not destroy our spirit. Lets take a closer look at the events and the aftermath of this tragedy. What happened on September 11th? At 7:58 a.m. an United Airlines Flight 175 departs Boston for Los Angeles, carrying 56 passengers, two pilots, and seven flight attendants. The Boeing 767 is hijacked after takeoff and diverted to New York. Again at 7:59 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 departs Boston for Los Angeles, carrying 81 passengers, two pilots, and nine flight attendants. This Boeing 767 is also hijacked and diverted to New York. United Airlines Flight 93, a Boeing 757 carrying 38 passengers, two pilots, and five flight attendants, leaves Newark, N.J., for San Francisco at around 8:01 a.m. American Airlines Flight 77 departs Washington's Dulles International Airport for Los Angeles, carrying 58 passengers, two pilots, and four flight attendants. The Boeing 757 is hijacked after takeoff nine minutes later.
This recession is said to end early next year. In 1996, a bombing at the Khobar Towers, an American military housing complex in Saudi Arabia, kills 19 soldiers and injures hundreds of others. Many airports are so crowded that there aren't enough security personnel to watch the every move of everyone in the airport. In October 2000, the USS Cole is bombed as it was anchored in the harbor at Aden, Yemen. I ask the American people to join me in saying a thanks for all the folks who have been fighting hard to rescue our fellow citizens and to join me in saying a prayer for the victims and their families. Marines, who set up operations at an air base near the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar, are launching a helicopter strike on an armored column that included tanks and personnel carriers.
