Atkins Diet

Society is in constant evaluation of themselves with the way they look, size of clothes they wear, and overall appearance. The "style" today is to be thin, with a firm stomach and tight skin. However, more and more people are becoming over-weight and even obese these days. People have been experimenting with many different kinds of diets to achieve this look for a long time. One of these diets is the Atkins diet, which is by far the most popular way of dieting now. This diet is not recommended and has major side effects which are worse than being over-weight. Low carbohydrate (carb) dieting was first invented in the 1800's, with people eating large amounts of protein to loose weight. Throughout many years the diet faded out with people trying new ways to loose weight. In the 1970's, a man named Dr. Robert C. Atkins published a book on low carb diets, called Dr. Atkins diet Revolution. His diet promised "not only will you lose weight - and not be hungry - with a low carbohydrate diet, but you will be on your way to better heart health and memory function, that has helped millions lose weight and keep it off.." (Grayson) However, it seems many different diets "promise" the same things, loosing weight, getting

The other contradiction to the Atkins diet "promise" is keeping the weight off. One of these such ways would be to go on a different diet. "The brain needs glucose (a form of sugar) to function efficiently, and it takes a long time to break down fat and protein to get to the brain," says Gail frank, PhD, spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association and professor of nutrition at California State University in Long Beach. For example, if someone was to sit down and eat a whole half gallon of ice cream, don't let that spoil the big picture. Which in the long run ends up having the adverse effect of trying to attract someone. Atkins talks about the good it does to the body, others believe just the opposite. A helpful way to do this, is to eat slow and thoroughly chew every bite. In fact this diet has the adverse effect that most people want, by the mere fact that the body actually looses muscle mass and possibly gains weight. In more detail, carbohydrates contain a high level of sugar, which enters the bloodstream and sends a message to secrete insulin in order to keep the blood sugar level from rising too high. "(Cool Nurse) Instead, many diet specialists suggest to drink more water, which helps muscles and the body 6clean itself out of toxins. People who stay on this diet for a prolonged period of time, do not receive enough vitamins and minerals and risk other potential health problems. Weather it is doing aerobics, lifting weights, or endurance training, any workout is not recommended while on this diet. High protein diets and fats tend to make someone be constipated, because the foods are hard for the body to break down. "(Leonard) Many of these side effects are far too serious to be made up.
