The Beattles and the Rolling Stones

For more than four decades, rock and roll music has been the most popular genre in the world. According to wikipedia.org, a free online encyclopedia, rock and roll music became a new musical style in America in 1950s. However, its popularity was not exploded in US but in England by the newborn rock and roll bands, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. During 1960s, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, which were definitely two of the most successful rock bands in British history, rocked the world with their own rock and roll music. Eventually, they became new icons in every teenager's life. Most people know both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones have a close relationship with drugs; however, they have differences in their music styles and their popularity. Without doubt, most people know both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones had a close relationship with drugs. The Beatles, whose members of the group were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr (Richard Starkey), were all addicted to drugs. According to an article from David W. In 1967, the band lead singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards had been sentenced to 3 months for possession of amphetamines and one year jail for allowing cannabis to be smoked in his mansion respectively (BBC, june 29th, 1967). The Beatles were popular in their good images, the Rolling Stones, on the other hand were popular in their wild images. The Beatles was basically popular for their light-weight pop music. In addition, the band itself had made some songs related to drugs, such as "Mother's Little Helper," about pill abuse, "under My Thumb," and many more. According to the largest recording industry in the world, EMI (Electric and Musical Industries Ltd), the Beatles was the best selling musical group of all time. It was clear that the Beatles and the Rolling Stones were two different kinds of rock-and-roll band. In summary, most of the Beatles songs have many similarities with Chuck Berry songs. Rolling Stones, on the other hand, have their music styles influenced by the Muddy Waters, a leading musical band of hard-rocking blues. Different as the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, called the "Fab Four," were not directly influenced by the blues. The last song I mention above, had made Chuck Berry sued John Lennon for copyright one of his songs "you can't catch me". Their songs were similar to Chuck Berry music, which were the combination of blues and country music. Furthermore, many of the Beatles songs were related to drugs such as "Strawberry Fields Foreve," "Day Tripper," "Yellow Submarine," and many more. One significant example of their popularity was their performance at Shea Stadium, New York in 1965.
