The Cold War
The Cold War was caused by many factors which each contributed to the uncertainty and instability of the situation between the America and the Soviet Union. While there were many important factors, only a few stand out as prominent causes of the conflict. First, the decision by America to drop the atomic bombs on Japan, which ended World War II, led to much mistrust between America and the Soviet Union. After dropping the atomic bombs, the Soviet Union was much more cautious in their dealings with America due to mistrust. Second, America's national security policy for planning post-war was a cause of great discomfort for the Soviets. Due to this, the Soviets were much more conscious of America's post-war planning in which Ameirca planned to regain their previous interests and possibly gain more. Ameirca's post-war planning and their use of the atomic bomb caused tension between them and a rising power, the Soviet Union. These two factors were crucial to assesing the American-Soviet Union rivalry in the post-war era. These bases were meant to allow America to control their borders in order to keep an attack such as the one by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor from happening again. This worried to Soviet Union because they were the only main threat to America. In effect, however, this move America forced the Soviet Union to be more cautious in their handling of American policy. There had been many instances of fire bombing in Japan during the war that resulted in many civilian casualties. The second consideration involving the base system was the need to display American power to intimidate a potential adversary. Their initial plan was to create a system of bases throughout the world which would serve as a boundry to stop attacks on America. rica and the Soviet Union were allies during World War II. The American's decision to drop the atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki not only effected the outcome of World War II, but it also effected the post-war time because of the magnitude of power the atomic bomb contained. There were two considerations which influenced the development of the system of bases. The main two factors were America's useof the atomic bomb to end the war and the American plan for the post-war. America addressed these threats through their actions, most notably their post-war plans and their use of the atomic bomb. There were many factors that led to these increased tensions. The atomic bomb was the chief military weapon at the time and the result of America controlling it, while enabling them to be a power in the post-war era, also created great mistrust between America and the Soviet Union. There were many complications such as bugets and difficulties reaching agreements with foreign countries, but America accumulated a good number of bases close to the Soviet Union by 1948.
