America' number one problem seem to be their issue on drugs. Nobody can honestly say
that they have never seen or heard of someone using an illegal drug. According to national
statistics drug use is on the rise. In the juxtaposition of 1995 through 2000, the drug use rate has
skyrocketed. This subject directly correlates with the controversy of the legalization of drugs.
People believe that making drugs legal will take away the temptation to use them. This
idea is wrong and far from logical, because if drugs are legalized then they will be more
accessible to the young, addicted, and ignorant. The ready availability of addicting drugs for
medical problems, caused many individuals to become addicted to the narcotics contained in
them. The only resulting effect of legalizing any drug would be a negative one. There are no
positive aspects of putting drugs on the streets with a label reading "legal".
Probably the most popular three drugs out there are marijuana, cocaine, and heroin. All
three of these drugs posses substances that have devastating effects to your body. Marijuana
basically affects your whole body ranging from your brain all the way down to your reproductive
system. Marijuana clogs synapses in the brain causing brain damage. Marijuana also speeds up
the heartbeat as much as 50%. Marijuana can even decrease and degenerate sperm, sperm
count, and movement. Even though the list can go on and on for marijuana these examples are
only a small factor of the damages it can do to your body.
The other two drugs are just as bad as marijuana and in most cases it's even worse.
Heroin and cocaine also have many negative effects on your body. Heroin itself can cause
tremors, vomiting, liver disease, lung damage, heart and valve infections and collapsed veins.
