Forced Affect

             Imagine being in a cage, with cameras everywhere. Never being alone. There's nothing you can do about it. Only being able to eat certain foods, like a strict diet, but without the choice. Can you possibly imagine having to work at a job that covers up the truth in reality? Nothing is for certain. Not even if you see it with your own eyes. Nobody is on your side. You are alone. You are scared. Above all, you are powerless.
             In the book "1984", written by George Orwell, the government, or "Big Brother" has a lot of power. Too much power, in fact. In this novel, life in the United States is pretty much hell. Everyone is controlled, scared, and forced to obey the every anal-retentive command of the government. Big Brother is everywhere. The government has people in disguise pretending to be the everyday man or woman, spying on you, and watching your every move. It's like the secret police. Nobody knows whom he or she can trust. Their Children are even spies. The government ruled with fear and had no restrictions.
             Interesting enough, George Orwell has also written the novel, "Animal Farm". In this book the government, which happened to consist of swine and boars, also has overwhelming power and control. Predictably, it too rules with fear. Both societies in both books are the opposite of "utopia".
             It appears that Mr. George Orwell has lost faith in out government. Does he have good case? That is definitely an argument worthy subject.
             For example, abortions. People say freedom of choice and allowing each woman to decide for herself is the right way to do things. Ironically, The opposing argument is that having abortion is taking away the right to live away the fetus. If the government passes a law to forbid abortions, they would be depriving women of their personal and natural choice. It would seem that there is no possible way to satisfy everybody.
