City of God

The part of the movie we watched in class started off by introducing some of the characters. There was Benny, Carrot, Lil' Ze, and a few others. There seems to be a party going on, Benny's going away party where all the different groups have all seemed to mesh together to say goodbye to Benny. Lil' Ze tries to convince Benny that he should stay but Benny wants to move to the country with his girlfriend and smoke weed (the first introduction of drugs). Lil' Ze, who apparently has never danced in his life, asks a girl to dance. After she says that she is with someone, he finds the guy and makes him strip at gunpoint in front of a crowd of people. At this point, some guys come up to Benny asking if they can trade a camera for some cocaine. Benny says he isn't dealing anymore but is convinced by his girlfriend that the camera would be a good present for one of their friends, Rocket. When Lil' Ze s

There was loud music, flashing lights, people moving all around possibly causing anxiety and heightened anger. At the party, and probably all over the place, drugs seem to be a factor (weed and cocaine, and probably others not mentioned). At the same moment, the video goes to a parallel of Lil' Ze saying "Why didn't we kill him?" This all occurs while the gang is going to find Carrot to kill him not knowing that he is already dead. The youth are committing crimes to support their drug usage. All the people at the party flee from the scene immediately. There are many factors involved in this community. There also seems to be no type of law enforcement and no fear of it either. All of these factors contribute to the events that occurred in the short portion of the film we watched. Lil' Ze and his "gang" find the girl who rejected him and the guy that Ze made strip. The entire community of the City of God seem to be very poor. The music is loud, the lights are flashing, people are dancing, fighting; Carrot pulls out a gun, trying to shoot Lil' Ze and ends up killing Benny. One example is that a boy stole his Fathers camera so that he could trade it for some cocaine. The gang goes to the guy who Ze made strip's house to find him and kill him. They beat the guy and rape the girl.
