The Teenage Scream : The Eighth Wonder of the World

It's a blistering cold Saturday morning in mid-January. At a TicketMaster Box Office there can be found a line that circles the block of 300 teenage girls, ages thirteen to seventeen, anxious and shivering in Parkas and Thinsulate gloves waiting for the first ticket to the B2K Scream 2 Tour Concert to go on sell. The giddy girls are oblivious to the cold because they are willing to go the ends of the earth just to be able to get anywhere near the teenage heartthrobs of the boy-band quartet. In a case where any "normal" person would be curled up on a couch with hot cocoa to escape the arctic conditions, young girls everywhere are happily freezing to spend their well saved allowances for the one night only concert, which to them is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Standing in corner turning lines is only a minor factor in living the life of a teenage fanatic. On the night of the well-anticipated concert an amphitheater is filled with 3,000 shrieking teenage girls from the very first mosh pit row to the grass seated nosebleed section. Every girl in attendance regardless of where she is sea

Quickly they lose focus and drive in school. The humid air surrounding the concert-goers is filled with a plethora of scents of lip-gloss flavors ranging for strawberry to cosmic cupcake. At any given time, a teenage fanatic will ravage through every teenybopper magazine for the tiniest bit of info on their current idol. Even going as far as buying more than one copy of each for use at home and travel. Besides the walls being surfaced with shiny magazine tear-outs a young teenage fanatic will devote all of her music selections to one and only music artist. The realm of teenage fanaticism is one that should be entered into well educated and with caution. Some girls even go as far as to get shirts airbrushed and personalized to outright declare their love of the boys in hope that he might read it and magically fall just as madly in love with her as she is with him. As their collection grows, the remnants of pink painted walls and frilly curtains are non-existent because they have over powered by the faces and hard bodies of seventeen-year-old teen idols. In a sense these young girls should be praised for their ability to devote so much time and effort into one area when most teens are known to be spastic and have short attention spans. ted is equally happy to be in the presence of the young men they hopelessly devote themselves to and would die happy knowing that their last, sweet teenage living day was spent watching B2k or whatever the most popular boyband is at that time. Teenage girls gradually find more importance in figuring out the best way to rearrange their last names when they wed the man of their adolescent dreams than in calculus and American history. Standing in corner-turning lines for hours, spending allowances on memorabilia, and living for empty dreams is only a portion of living the life of the teenage fanatic. Go inside the bedroom of a fourteen-year-old girl and you are sure to find the walls plastered with posters and magazine clippings. She will make it her life jihad to own every album, remix, LP, and single sung by and featuring her fanatical subject.
