Skin too far from the skin

             Obesity is a growing epidemic in The United States. It seems everywhere you turn you see an overweight person. In fact from a recent study 64 percent of adults in America are considered overweight. Now, I'm no doctor but that's a huge number. What caused this big number? I personally think that people started to worry about other things rather than their health. This is the only reasoning for this. Americans are caring less about their health. This is why so many Americans today are considered overweight. People are going to have to start thinking about the future rather than how good this cheeseburger tastes today. In order to beat this epidemic Americans are going to have to start taking responsibility for their actions and take pride in their physical appearance.
             Obesity is a very serious subject. And when 64 percent of adults are considered overweight, it seems to me, that Americans are not educated on the subject. Obesity can lead up to heart attacks, strokes, and even death. From 1990 to 2000 "deaths tied to physical inactivity and poor diet increased by 100,000 or 33 percent," (Round Figures). Obesity can also lead to asthma and diabetes. Researchers at the University of Ottawa did an experiment on how obesity connects to asthma. From their results they found out that " For every 10 percent of body weight lost, they regained 5 percent of their lung function. Carrying lots of extra weight taxes breathing muscles, make them work harder and less effectively," (McVeigh). Restricted airflow in the lungs produces asthma like symptoms.
             Furthermore, Obesity can also cause you to have an abnormal heartbeat. Which will soon lead to a heart attacks or your grave. Researchers found out that "Obesity raises the risk of atria fibrillation, an abnormal heartbeat that can lead to stroke and early death if not controlled," (Capsules).
