A witness example
As I stepped into Ethan's apartment I glanced around and took note of several items that could help me. Sitting down we began talking about football and the Titan's chances for the year. I let Ethan steer the conversation as I did my best to set him at ease. After ten minutes of chatting I felt it was time to move on to the topic I wished to talk about. I reached down and pulled my Bible out of my backpack. Before I jumped into my message I asked Ethan if he would pray with me. It was a great boost to my confidence when he not only agreed, but he immediately reached for my hands. As I prayed I felt encouragement pouring into me, so when I finished praying I immediately jumped right in with barely a glance at my notes secured in the back of my Bible. I opened to my first bookmark, Romans 3:10-12, "There is none righteous, not even one; there is none who understands, there is none who seeks God; all have turned aside, together they have become useless; there is none who does good, there is not even one." I then looked him in the eye and asked him straight out if he knows he is a sinner. With a steady gaze he admitted that he was. Luckily I had labeled my bookmarks so I knew what passage to turn to without referring to my notes
" As we discussed these verses I pointed out that knowing Christ died for you is wonderful, but you have to accept him as your savior and as for forgiveness. When we had talked earlier he had admitted to me that he did not have a Bible of his own so I decided to rectify that situation. So quietly I could barely hear him Ethan prayed and asked Christ into his life. As we talked about it I began to realize that, like teaching, when you present you learn more than when you are presented to. I had already turned to my next bookmark so I moved right into Romans 10:9-10, That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Looking down at my Bible Ethan began to read what I had underlined, Revelation 3:20, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. After a short fumble to find my next bookmark I read Romans 5:8, "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" Quickly I turned to John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" I felt wonderful as we discussed Christ and his sacrifice for everyone, especially sinners like Ethan and I. Another look at my notes and we began to discuss all that I had just read to him. " I then opened to my 4th bookmark with Revelation 21:8, "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. Without a pause he nodded his head and said yes. I wrapped up our prayer with thanks to God and then took Ethan into my arms for a second. I prayed for Ethan and then I asked him to pray as well. We left his apartment and went out to eat.
