Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering is a laboratory technique used by scientists to change the DNA of living organisms. It is used to take genes and segments of DNA from one species and put them into another species. Once these segments are isolated, one can study the different segments of DNA, multiply them up and stick them together next to any other DNA of another cell or organism.There are many pros to genetic engineering. Genetic engineering makes it possible to break through the species barrier and to shuffle information between completely unrelated species. Genetic engineering could increase nutritional values. For example, genetic engineering could allow use to decr
ease unhealthy levels of fats in certain foods. Unfortunately, there are also cons of Genetic engineering. Tests to determine health risks are difficult because of the uniqueness of Genetic engineering. A greater production rate at cheaper costs. It would also allow farmer to spray an entire field, killing all the weeds while not disturbing the crop of interest. This would mean fewer pesticides would be needed to use on crops. It is not known which components in food cause allergic reactions. I think so many good things came come from Genetic Engineering to just put it aside because a group said it was cruel. This could increase pests or pathogens. Resistance of plants to pesticides could increase the selective pressure on pests. I don't agree with this statement at all. There are also some potential environmental impacts. Therefore the consumer wouldn't know exactly what they were purchasingIn my opinion, Genetic engineering is a good thing.
