George H. W. Bush

The forty-first president of the United States, George Herbert Walker Bush served during complicated times. He enjoyed broad political connections, but poor popular support. He was known as Reagan's weaker helper during his vice presidency, but took a stand when he became President. He is best remembered for his part in Operation Just Cause and Desert Storm.George Herbert Walker Bush was born in Milton, Massachusetts on Thursday, June 12, 1924, but grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. His parents came from wealthy Midwestern families. His father, Prescott Bush, was born on May 15, 1895, in Columbus, Ohio, and died on October 8, 1972 in New York, NY. He was an investment banker and a partner in a leading Wall Street law firm. Once, however, Prescott Bush was caught "trading with the enemy." He was a stock holder and director of the Union Banking Corporation, a German bank that was run during World War II. "In October 1942, ten months after entering World War II, America was preparing its first assault against Nazi military forces. Prescott Bush was managing partner of Brown Brothers Harriman. His 18-year-old son George, the future U.S. President, had just begun training to become a naval pilot. On Oct. 20, 1942, the U.S.

He served in that position until he was called home to head the Central Intelligence Agency in 1975. It was a difficult time to be President with what was going on in the world, and he left a legacy of good and bad. Reagan's operation began slightly before noon, at 10:32 PM, and when Bush arrived at Andrews Air Force Base about half an hour later, he was officially acting President. Although Bush's networks were good at putting a positive spin on things, this was not always enough. Desert Storm has also come to be known as "The First Televised War. Some would say this was his greatest mistake. When Iraq invaded and occupied Kuwait in August 1990, Bush led a world wide United Nations approved embargo against Iraq to force its withdrawal. This worked very well for Bush, since it gave him considerable power within the inner councils of Reagan's leadership. Bush was once rescued by a submarine when his plane was shot down in the Pacific Ocean. As far as schooling, he attended private schools both at his birthplace, and Andover, Massachusetts. One of Bush's more memorable public appearances was when he had a vice presidential debate with Geraldine Ferraro and remarked that the Marines who had been killed at a bombing in Beirut, Lebanon in October 1983 had "Died in shame. Although Prescott Bush was not a German or a Nazi, some of the people holding stock in the UBC were affiliated with German industrial giants and because of a recent act that was passed, the US was allowed to seize the property of a citizen of a designated enemy country (Germany at that time). " The morning after the debate with Ferraro, Bush traveled to Elisabeth, New Jersey so he could attend a rally with longshoremen. Bush is currently living in Houston, Texas, and enjoying the peacefulness of the place.
