Women As A Whole

Women make up more than half of the human race, yet for thousands of years they have not been treated the way they should. They have rarely been considered equal to men. Throughout history, women have made many contributions to society and their role has been noticed and has changed over the years. Women have played and continue to play a significant role in politics, marriage, and employement. Also, women have even participated in wars and have made an impact on the world, as well as, in the lives of their families. Women from all different backgrounds, religions and races have contributed to the change of women's role in society. Each country or religion has a different interpretation of what the role of a woman should be, but many traditional views remain the same. However, through hard work and dedication, many women have made a difference, and have succeeded in changing their status. American women began to fight for their political rights, but it was not until 1848 that the first women's rights convention took place in Seneca Falls, N.Y. Also, it was not until 1920 that American women had the right to vote. After that women grew stronger and fought harder to have a place in the White House, Congress, United States House of Representatives, United States Senate, and even the United Nations.
