Happiness

Watching the sun rise, getting a raise, putting a smile on someone's face these are all examples of when a person may feel a happy. They are all diverse, just like the individual's in the world. Happiness is acquired through countless stimuli, whether they are material or emotional. One can not give a general definition for happiness, due to the fact that each person has their own perception of what happiness is. Happiness lies in the eye of the beholder, and as the beholder I see happiness as:Thus through this essay I will describe what happiness means to me, by discussing the above mentioned. I know that had I not been raised with my family, that I would not be the person that I am today, which taps into Freud concept of nature vs. In closing, in the words of Allan K. Everyone basically, comes together after church and we sit down and eat lunch together and then spend the rest of the day talking and just enjoying each others company. Also, going out with my sister and cousin on the weekends is always brings happiness into my life. I feel that the accomplishments in anyone's life help to build self-esteem, which causes a person to feel more confident about themselves and thus gives them a feeling of happiness. Furthermore, according to Santrock (2003), "not only does social support improve a person's emotional state, but a person's emotional state also influences the likelihood that the support will be provided" (482). Because if a person continues to strive to be something that is untrue to them they will almost certainly fail, thus making them feel a sense of incompetence. I feel that this is extremely true, my family plays and intricate part in my happiness, and I feel truly blessed to have such a big and supporting family. Chalmers (2000), "The grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for" (1547). Morris (2001) also suggests that "goals reflecting your interests and values can help to attain and maintain new levels of happiness, rather than return to base line" (p. In reading this essay I hope that I have been able to explain what happiness stands for to me. A few examples include graduating from high school and being accepted to UMBC for the Fall of 2002 even though I was unable to attend.
