In the past ten years there have been a lot of fraud in big business. Also over the past twenty years there has been an increase in interest concerning global pollution. As citizens of the United States we all have wondered who protects us from big business. Through out school most people learn that congress passes all the laws, but what they fail to realize is that besides the congress and the legislator there is another group of governmental agencies that also pass laws. These administrative agencies stand alone in their decision making process. They also pass laws that regulate everything from your right to bare arms, to the drugs that can be bought and distributed in the United States. In line with our system of checks and balances, our executive, judicial, and or the legislative bodies of the government also can over rule these agencies. These administrative agencies also exist on the state level as well. There is a national EPA and there is an EPA in each state that makes sure they follow federal guidelines. A case that demonstrates the advantages that these agencies provide is evident in the coal mining industry. Some businesses have closed and moved to other states where insurance cost have not risen much. A former top executive of a mining company, now the head of Mine Safety and Health administrative should know what would save lives shouldn't he. Every day private interest groups influence administrative agencies, whether it is through monetary donations or through treats. Though businesses may complain in the beginning 5they are usually saved tons of trouble later.
