Terrorism

             A majority of Americans may have gotten their first taste of terrorism on September 11, 2001, but citizens of the world know that terrorism did not begin on that horrific day in America. Sadly, terrorism has a very well known and extensive history that has been documented around the world. Terrorism has not only left a permanent mark on the United States, but also on every nation in the world. Thus, the effort to disembowel terrorist factions must be done through collective action by all nations. In the following paper, I will examine the pattern of terrorist acts since 1970, answer whether or not the attack of September 11, 2001, represented a new type of terrorism, and offer my explanation on how the capability of addressing the causes of international terrorism exists and how this capability can be applied to eradicate terrorism.
             Terrorism has an extensive history, but since 1970, a distinct pattern regarding terrorist strategies has emerged. The pattern, which includes terrorists killing innocent civilians to attract international attentionmedia attention, the formation of international terrorist networks that cooperate and share their weapons and intelligence and terrorist using intimidation on a grand scale, was used to advance a political cause.
             On September 11th, the nature of terrorism did not change,. Similar to terrorist attacks of the past, the events on September 11th were the direct result of terrorists using modern technology, specifically telecommunications, and the ancient method of suicide terrorism to execute their plans to destroy both the Pentagon and the World Trade Centers. According to the division of terrorism in the Central Intelligence Agency, with modern technology at their disposal, particularly advancements in telecommunications, terrorists who hijacked the planes were enabled to plan and operate worldwide and coordinate their actions among dispersed cells, while virtually going unnoticed....
